Files in the AI Era: What’s Changing, What’s Coming, and What It Breaks

Your File Security Approach Is Not as Mature as You Think

Osterman Research asked 254 US IT and security leaders how mature their file security is. Nearly three in four said very or extremely. The study found none of them at either level. Most landed in the bottom two tiers of five.

The gap is not academic. Two in five organizations have had file-related breaches in the past two years, at an average cost of $2.2 million. Most of the rest cannot prove they haven’t.

Michael Sampson, Principal Analyst at Osterman Research, and OPSWAT VP of Products George Prichici take you through all five findings, from what AI has already changed to why the fix is not only a budget problem.

What the Session Covers

Key highlights from the research, including how each finding was measured and what it means in practice.

More Detection Won’t Fix the Problem

Three in four say more detection spending would eliminate file threats. Three in four also say the detection-first model has to change. The session shows what does.

AI Changed What Arrives in a File

Concern is rising fastest on AI-native threats, led by files with falsified content or a falsified source. The session covers which channels have no inspection point.

The Advantage Is at the Boundary

Osterman Research compared prevention-first organizations against everyone else. The confidence gap sits almost entirely where files cross in and out. The session explains where to start.
